Inequality symbols
The symbols used in an inequality: less than $(<)$, greater than $(>)$, less than or equal to (\( \le \)), and greater than or equal to (\( \ge \)).

Independent variable
The input of a function.
Inconsistent system
A system of equations that have no solution. The slopes of the lines are equal.
Imaginary unit i
The square root of -1. \(i = \sqrt { – 1} \)
Imaginary part
The part of a complex number that is added to the real part. $bi$ in $a + bi$.
Imaginary number
When \(b \ne 0\) in a complex number, $a + bi$.
i-form
The form used when writing the square root of a negative number using the imaginary unit $i$.
Identities
A relationship equating one expression to another.
